Fifteen Minutes or Five?
In the Livcom competition in Stuttgart in 2002, I’d planned to say “In Xiàmén you are never more than a 15 minute walk from a park. But the night before my presentation, the Mayor of Stuttgart said in a speech, “In Stuttgart, we are never more than a 5 minute walk from a park.”

Talk about stealing one’s thunder! But I stole it back.
During my presentation the next morning, I said, “In Xiàmén we are never more than 15 minutes’ walk from a park.” As some of the audience started to snicker I added, “I know the mayor said that in Stuttgart they are never more than 5 minutes walk from a park, but fortunately for us, Xiàmén people don’t have to walk so fast!”

The moral? Take life slowly…and laugh.
