L¨´f¨¡ Gourmet
Restaurant, H¨²l¨« Branch
(L¨´f¨¡ M¨§ish¨ª, H¨²l¨« Di¨¤n ðØ·¢ÃÀʳ,ºþÀïµê) has a magnificent gate
in front, but the restaurant itself is quite impres-sive as well. The
38 million Yuan place covers 8,000m2! With 1,500 seats, 22 rooms, and
10 luxurious VIP rooms, the place is so long that if you sit at the south
end you need a taxi to reach the bathroom on the north side. Even so,
Lu Fa is often packed to capacity. What¡¯s there to eat? Just about anything
you can think of, from local Minnan cuisine to Ch¨¢ozh¨u clay pot and
Sh¨¤ngh¨¢i hairy crabs. It¡¯s no wonder this has become Susan Marie¡¯s
favorite restaurant.
Their specialty is Taiwanese, M¨«nn¨¢n and Gu¨£ngd¨ng cuisines, including
Australian and South African abalone¡ªwhich according to Lu Fa cures virtually
everything!
¡°Abalone has a
function of nourishing yin, balancing blood pressure and tonifying the
skin. Chinese traditional medicine believes that abalone can replenish
vital essence and relieve dryness, improve the function of liver and eyes
and can cure the deficiency of vital essence of the liver and kidney,
consumptive fever, deficiency of blood of the liver and blur sight.
¡°Modern medicine considers abalone full of nourishments with plenty of
protein, fat, iodine, calcium, phosphor and vitamin A and a very good
tonic. Cooked in clay pot in an ancient way abalone is the best dish for
diners.¡±
If abalone doesn¡¯t
cure what ails you, try Shark¡¯s fin (though I would not):
¡°For a long time,
shark fin is regarded as a rare table food and is well known for its function
of improving health and delaying aging. Shark fin has abundant organic
gelatin which can improve the blood circulation and energy. When done,
the soft and melting shark fin in excellent sauce is the best select for
distinctive people to treat their friends.¡±
Well, folks, at
198 Yuan per person I don¡¯t think I¡¯m distinctive enough to treat anyone
to shark¡¯s fin. Bring on the sweet ¡®n sour.
