I have always been honored by the fact that I was born on Chinese New Year

I was born on January 29th, 1919 [on the 3rd floor of Hope Hospital, on Gulangyu Islet]. This year, I notice that Chinese New Year was on the 28th of January. I believe that it has been the custom, at least in our Veenschotens in Toa-bo late 1920s (Gary Veenschoten as always holding an animalpart of china, to start counting birthdays of babies as being one year old at birth. That means that a person born about that time would be two years old.

Therefore, as of this year, I am 87 on January 29th. But the Chinese would count me as being 88.
